2017 Volkswagen Golf Glendale CA
If we’re honest, the Golf family is one of our favorite things about being a VW dealership. It isn’t that the other models aren’t great, but the Golf has a soft spot because it offers everything from this practical model, to the roomier SportWagen, and the potent Golf R. There’s a model for everyone, and they’re all efficient and attractive hatchbacks. The 2017 Volkswagen Golf in Glendale CA is the third of the current generation, having been redesigned in 2015 with a new look and a turbocharged engine.
The question isn’t whether the 2017 Volkswagen Golf is good, as the redesign of the model proved to provide an enormous boost to the model’s reputation overall. For 2017, the model need only remain the same to continue as one of the best options for those seeking a compact car. VW opted not to make many changes, only adding on a new value-oriented trim level, the Wolfsburg Edition, and trimming the fat from dealership showrooms by having the SE and SEL trims switched to order-only status.
The base trim for the Golf 4-door is the S, which comes standard with a multi-function steering wheel, heated side mirrors, 15-inch Lyon wheels, VW Car-Net App-Connect with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, a rearview camera system, cruise control, Bluetooth and cloth seating surfaces.
When the Golf received its revision, one of the first announcements was a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that replaced the old 2.5-liter naturally aspirated one. This turbo four delivers 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque when paired with the standard 5-speed manual.
Why buy a hatchback if it isn’t more spacious than the competition? This is one of the benefits of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf, as it offers 93.5 cubic feet of passenger space to seat up to five passengers, while still delivering 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space, and 52.7 cubic feet with rear seats folded flat.
2017 VW Golf Safety and Features
Excellent cargo space and a potent engine? It seems the 2017 Volkswagen Golf has all the practical elements covered, but what about safety for you and your passengers? Last year, the 2016 Volkswagen Golf managed to scoop up a Top Safety Pick+ rating when equipped with the optional Driver Assistance Package. For 2017, the Volkswagen Golf has already earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. Standard safety features include a crash-optimized front end, side curtain protection head airbags for the front and rear, passenger occupant detection, the VW Intelligent Crash Response System and automatic post-collision braking.
The Driver Assistance Package is available beginning at the SE trim and includes Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Parking Steering Assistant, Park Distance Control and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Since the SE and SEL are being moved over to order-only status, the Wolfsburg Edition trim is being added on just above the base S w/Sunroof trim. It’s a value-oriented model that aims to provide the right balance of premium features and affordability. Standard features include a sunroof, V-Tex leatherette upholstery, keyless access with push-button start, heatable front seats, automatic headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, special badging and floormats, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.
