We’ve been excited for quite some time about the brand-new vehicle coming soon to the VW lineup, the 2019 Arteon. Ever since the CC first began to lose traction, before ultimately being discontinued in the 2017 model year, we’ve been waiting for news on what might pick up where it left off. The end result? The upcoming Arteon. We’ve been getting a jump start on seeing how it measures up to similar vehicles, and thought we’d keep that going by pitting the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon vs 2019 Toyota Camry.

At this point, a lot of the more precise details regarding the Arteon’s specs & features have yet to be released, but we’ve got enough information to see how the Arteon compares to the just-released 2019 Toyota Camry. The Camry was just redesigned for the 2018 model year, so it makes the perfect competitor for the brand-new Arteon.

Advantages of the 2019 Arteon

As you can see from one glance at the table above, the two vehicles are quite similar to one another, but each one has its advantages. The first row shows that the Arteon will be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, while the Camry is powered by a slightly larger non-turbo engine. As the second row depicts, despite the fact that the engine is smaller, the Arteon is able to deliver much more power thanks to its turbocharged nature. To be more specific, 65 extra horsepower. It remains to be seen how efficient each vehicle will be, but we imagine they’ll be on par with one another, though it’s possible this would be one area in which the Camry has an advantage.

In the second half of the table we look at two other important parts of the powertrain: the transmission and the drive system. Both sedans offer 8-speed automatic transmissions, one area in which they’re evenly matched, but when it comes to offering an all-wheel drive system the Camry falls flat.
