As the chart above highlights, the 2019 Volkswagen Golf SE has premium standard features, but it comes at a higher price than the S with its basic features. Despite their differences, the two models are made of the same stuff, with the same engine beneath their hood and the same fuel economy rating. They both have a 1.4 L Turbocharged engine that produces 147 horsepower. They both get an estimated fuel economy rating of 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.

Since they are so similar at their core, you don’t really lose anything by upgrading to the SE trim level. The SE trim level has everything that the S has, but just bigger and better. It also has extras like a panoramic sunroof and keyless access with a push-button start. Plus, you can get the available Driver Assistance Package with the SE, which is not available for the S.
