TDI Model Vehicles
Many of our pre-owned vehicles here at New Century Volkswagen have turbocharged direct injection or TDI engines. Our selection of TDI models span a wide variety including the Jetta TDI, Jetta SportWagen 2.0L TDI, Golf TDI, Beetle 2.0 TDI, and more.
With so many TDI models available, we want to make sure our customers have the knowledge available to make an informed choice on engine type. Keep reading to learn about what a TDI engine is and the benefits of purchasing a TDI model.
What is a TDI engine?
As the name suggests, this engine type features turbocharging and cylinder-direct fuel injection. Turbocharging adds more air into the combustion chamber of the engine to increase efficiency and power output. Cylinder-direct fuel injection is a system that inserts fuel directly into the combustion chamber of the engine. A TDI engine decreases emissions and provides more torque than many other engine types.
Volkswagen and TDI
The Volkswagen Group, aka Volkswagen AG created TDI engines. TDI engines are used in many Volkswagen Group passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, and well as in marine engines used by Volkswagen Marine and Volkswagen Industrial Motor. TDI is a registered trademark of Volkswagen AG in many countries.
Extended Emissions Warranty Information
This warranty covers affected 2.0-litre or 3.0-litre TDI vehicles. The extended warranty lasts for either 10 years or 193,000 km, whichever comes first from the date of sale or for 4 years or 77,000 km, whichever comes first from the date and mileage at the time of emissions repair. With this warranty, all components replaced in an emissions repair or which are impacted by an emissions repair are covered.
Benefits of purchasing a TDI model
As aforementioned, the main benefits of a TDI model is that they harbor more power and more efficiency than their gas engine counterparts. This makes them an overall better engine choice, as power and efficiency are arguably the most important factors in engine output.
The high efficiency of TDI engines improves a vehicle’s fuel economy. For example, the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI had a fuel economy rating of 46 mpg on the highway with manual transmission. That is way better than your average vehicle, and many other Volkswagen vehicles have similar ratings. This may sound counterintuitive to anyone who has learned that diesel engines are bad for the environment, but Volkswagen came out with a TDI Clean Diesel lineup of vehicles that give out lower CO2 emissions than 93% of other vehicles.
For drivers looking for more power, the TDI engine is a favorable choice. Diesel engines offer more torque, which is why they are often the powerhouses of heavy-duty trucks like semi-trucks.
