How to use VW Easy-Open Trunk feature
They say it’s the little things that count, and this phrase holds true when it comes to available features in any vehicle. Models like the 2016 Volkswagen Passat naturally include all the modern features shoppers have come to expect when buying a new car, like Bluetooth and cruise control, but it’s the extras that light up their faces. Volkswagen offers the Hands-Free Easy-Open Trunk feature on just a select few options, but when you need it, it sure does come in handy. Though, not literally, since it’s hands-free! So if you know you have it, but want to learn how to use VW Easy-Open Trunk feature, you’ve come to the right place.

Which VW models have Hands-Free Easy-Open Trunk?
Since it isn’t a necessary feature, you’ll find it is limited to just a few models. The Passat is the most popular option as it is the only one that isn’t a higher-end model to have this feature. The top-of-the-line 2016 Volkswagen CC V6 Executive 4Motion also has it, though this trim level won’t be available for 2017 so the feature may be leaving the CC lineup. The 2016 Touareg has the feature in trims starting with the V6 Sport w/Technology, while the Passat trims that have it start with the SE w/Technology.

Technically speaking, the Touareg feature is called Easy-Open Liftgate, since SUVs don’t have trunks, but let’s not split hairs!

How to use VW Hands-Free Easy-Open Trunk
Using this feature is so easy, it feels ridiculous even offering up instructions. The one thing to note? Hands-free doesn’t mean keys-free, but since when have you ever been able to pop your trunk without using your keys? Using the Hands-Free Easy-Open Trunk feature is simple. If your keys are on you, whether they are in your pocket or purse, there is a sensor in your car that recognizes it. All you need to do is swing your foot under the center of the rear bumper and the trunk will open for you.

But what if the feature isn’t working? Naturally, it isn’t the only way to pop the trunk. Your key fob has a button for you to quickly unlock it, or you pull the switch manually.
